SP is the friend in need. Indeed!

All eyes are set on United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) including the Samajwadi part (SP) and their ways of moving since it is the last hope to the present UPA government, which, as it seems, is on the verge of collapse. For this reason, at this critical juncture, each and every move of the SP will under the scanner of the political environs and media on a national scale. Meanwhile, rumors are mounting over the high profile meeting of the National Security Adviser MK Narayanan with the political brass of SP to try to persuade them to support the deal.

There is no doubt that a strange situation persists where none of the key constituents of the Union Government is in a mood to even conceive the other. The situation has aggravated much, thanks to the stubborn stand of the Lefts, which are ready to withdraw support, once the PM heads to a G8 summit in Japan on July 7, where he will likely meet President George W Bush.

Again, if the government fails to win the confidence of SP and subsequently Left withdraws support, it will face an early election and in the most awkward position. The government is already in a crisis, which is worsening daily with the rising and record-breaking inflation.

To add more, there is also an ongoing and indefinite strike by truckers across the country to protest rising fuel prices. This is sure to bungle the entire scenario and threatens to worsen inflation and clog up some supplies of basic goods.

What should be the ideal task of the government is difficult to ascertain. But, if the bus of nuclear deal is missed due to apparatchiks, India will definitely loose a major source of energy alternatives to propel its development.
